The Tiger I was the most famous German heavy tank during WWII.  It saw its first combat action in late 1942.  A total of 1,347 Tiger I tanks were built before the production stopped in 1944.  Tiger I tanks destroyed many rivals in battlefields, but only few enemy tanks could threaten them.
